The Balearic nautical sector, represented by its most significant associations, wants to express their point of view regarding a first draft of modification of Law 10/2019 of Climate change.
We share the concern of the Ministry of Energy Transition and of society in general, to advance on the path of reducing polluting emissions attributable to the human activity, and of course, the Balearic nautical sector, can and should contribute to the extent that possible to said reduction.
Basically there are two points that fully affect the sector; one specifically to the nautical charter and another to the social nautical of our community.
Regarding the first, it cannot be claimed that in 2030 the vessels intended for charter are all electric, although currently the technology of electric motorization of boats, it has resolved the issue of small lengths and for very next, for boats that are rented for weeks, and that many times they will not be at port in this period of time, this issue is not resolved. Hence, we do not believe it appropriate put said limitation, when today technology has not satisfactorily resolved this matter. For the same reason, we do not see it possible that at the time of entry of these modifications, no more licenses can be given to motorized charter boats traditional.
The second point that affects Balearic sailing in general is that it is claimed that, in the regionally owned facilities, from 2030 only authorizations can be granted of use of moorings to those vessels with “zero emissions”. The reason we can't share this limitation, it is the same as the previous point, the lack of a functional technology and applicable to boats from a certain length, and with a use beyond the bathroom or thewalk for a few hours.
The Balearic nautical sector has had a serious commitment to the environment for a long time;
work is being done on wave energy projects, we have the first beached car at level national electric company, we have the first emission-neutral nautical installation in Spain, works on cutting-edge projects for the transparency of port waters, from the different fishing associations collaborate with scientific entities in monitoring and marking of species, boating associations work to disseminate care for the environment marine, 2. There is no doubt that as in any sector, there is much to do and correct, but to legislate you cannot just throw away desires, you must have knowledge on the subject and an important technical base, and above all dialogue with those involved.
